Designing our Animals from our reports!

Kia ora everyone! Today with Koka Amie we learnt how to go a step further with designing our pictures.

We learnt how to change the edit shape, add textures to our shapes, and to use all of these new skills together to create some fantastic animals.

Most of the class made the animals or insects that they researched on to make their diorama's.

I will be adding those pictures in my next post.

We also learnt how to use screen cast again and add a quick video to explain about what our animal was and some information from our investigations.

It was a very fun period and students really used their imaginations to invent excellent pictures.  Once we have finished all of our pictures Matua Raniera will be posting our finished work in one complete slide production.

Here are some of the completed animals:
This is Harlems Tiger.

This is Ayrton's dragon.

There are plenty more to come!

Balloon Challenges: Making a dog!

Earlier this year we had a balloon challenge to try and make a dog!

It was very challenging and there were lots of explosions.

Key Te Arai Sayings:
Give it a go and never say no!
Keep on trying and trying and trying!
Some of us were successful!  Lot's of us heard the mighty 'pop!' and had to start again.

Raquoi never gave up and was able to help others!

Cyber Smart: Digital Houses

Koka Amie has come to visit Te Arai again to help us with learning how to use our Chrome Books more effectively.  We had a quick reflection on caring for our chrome books and then also revisited how to find documents that we had created.

Sometimes we are having so much fun on our Chrome Books that we create lots of files that are named the same.  So in Te Arai today we learnt how to organise our files and move them to the correct folder.

Then we looked at the Te Arai Checkpoints sheet to see all the tasks that we have been given.  In this list our names are listed and in each task sheet there is a link to the work in our folders.

We have used a colour code to show how we are going:

RED stands for Not started yet
PINK stands for some more Thinking needs to take place as it is not completed
GREEN stands for 'Go' to the next task, you have finished!

Congratulations to all of those who have completed tasks!

Koka Amie then gave us our next Ninja challenges, that was using 'Google Drawings' to design our house.

Here are some completed drawings:
This was completed by Raniera Apisai.  He whare ataahua tenei!

This is Sarhys Donners whare.  It looks like the weather we have been experiencing of late.  He rangi awha tenei.

Thank you again and kia pai to mutunga wiki!

Cybersmart: Forklift Hold

In Te Arai we have Kōka Amie come to visit every week to help us to learn about being smart learners with our Chromebooks.  In our Cybersmart programme we have been learning about how we look after our devices.  Kōka Amie was impressed because we had already created a Kawa of Care before she even came to visit us.  We are making some Digital Learning Objects to show our learning about how we look after our chromebooks.

Last week when Kōka Amie came in, we were learning about using the Forklift Hold to carry our devices so that they are safe.  Our devices are very expensive tools that help us with our learning, so we know we want to take very good care of them.

During the week, we finished off our slides with Matua Raniera. Kōka Amie thinks we are amazing because we put extra time into our learning after she left her time with us.  Look at what we created!

We were learning to use Google Slides to show our learning.  We learned to insert a picture of us and to insert a picture of us holding our devices using a forklift hold.  We also changed the background of our slides and learned how to insert some Word Art to write our name.  This week, we are going to be learning about how we can remove the background from our photo and put a different background behind us.  Check back in with our learning here on our class blog to see what we learn!
