Te Wiki o Te Reo Maori! Challenge!

Imagine that you turned up to class to learn and it was playing video games!  What would you do?

How crazy is that!  Well next week is a celebration of te reo Maori. Te Arai will be creating their own video game in te reo Maori!

Would you like to do this?

Here is a video of Matua Raniera's Pepeha Game!

Matua Raniera said to his class "In the real world I can jump as high and run as fast as my digital me in my game! Perhaps even higher and faster?"

Please enjoy!  We will be posting our student games soon on our blogs when we are finished!

Ko te tuapapa o te matauranga, whaia te mahere ako! Mapping out our future!

Malo Soifua, Whakalofa lahi atu, Ki orana, Bula!
Warm greetings to our tuakana class Takahe in Wesley Primary School. Thank you for allowing us to see the beautiful and interesting learning experiences in your wonderful kura.
Your blogs have shown us how much fun you are having in your journey to be the best that you possibly can be!

Our Maunga is called Waipura

Our River is called Taruheru
The Waka that we descend from is called Takitimu
Our Iwi / Tribe is called Te Aitanga a Mahaki
Our local Tribe is called Te Whanau a Iwi
Our School is Riverdale School / Te Waimarino
We are called Te Arai

Today we got to look at your blog and loved it.  After this we sat with Koka Amie who is our Manaiakalani Support Teacher.  She helped us to map out our learning that we have completed so far.

There is so much learning that we are doing right now.  We are helping one another to achieve our goals.  Together we are so much wiser and smarter!  E hara taku toa i te toa takitahi, he toa taki maha ke!

Several students in our class have very good memories and like to help others who need support.  Even Matua Raniera forgets sometimes and the students in our class keep him up with the play.

The learners in Te Arai think of all kinds of ways that they can add x factor to their mahi!  Each person in our class is so special.  That what makes us unique.  If we put our special talents together there is nothing that we cannot achieve!

You are special also Takahe, there is so much that we can learn from each other!

Te Rei Forbes: Adventurer in the Mighty USA!

Early last week Te Rei and his mum packed their bags to travel to Hawaii in the Mighty USA.

Their destination is from Auckland to Hawaii, then Hawaii to Vegas.  This morning Te Rei sent us a photo of him arriving in Vegas.  He looked very excited.

We were able to email him back to say how we were feeling.

Should 7, 8, and 9 year olds be allowed to drive cars out on the highway?

Here is a topic that we debated on today!
(LI: Persuading others)
(SC: State your argument
        I believe (give your opinion)
so / because (give a strong reason why? It must make sense!)

Should 7, 8, and 9 year olds be allowed to drive cars out on the highway?
Here is Brandon.  He is 8 years old and does not agree!

Liarah is 9 years old and agree's that kids should be allowed to drive cars!

Our Opinions: A Coke Machine for free!

Our Opinions: 'Currently we are upgrading our school.  We are deciding wether or not we should put a brand new Coke machine outside to replace our water fountains!'

Learning Intension:
We are learning how to persuade others

Success Criteria:

  • State your arguement
  • Use 'I believe' (State your position on the arguement)
  • Use 'so, or because' (Give a 'strong' reason why you think this way!)

Here are our examples so far!

Should we replace our water fountains with coke machines? I believe that we should not replace the water fountains with coke machines because.....

Sarhys 'drinking too much coke is not healthy, too much sugar could lead to us getting diabete's'

Yoziah ' drinking too much coke would make the children at Riverdale School be too hypo, then we would not be able to learn'

Gabriel 'drinking too much coke would make our teeth rot, that is not cool!'

Raniera and Jasmine 'some people would be greedy and perhaps be bullies at the coke machine, arguments over it would happen!'

Matua Raniera said, 'I agree, sometimes I need a pick me up when I am sleepy, drinking diet coke would be better than drinking coffee,'

Raquoi ' drinking coke too much would rot your insides out.  Coke is like acid!'

Our Science Fair Projects

Science Fair 2019

Each afternoon it was a mad rush to get out the paints, glues, paper, and tape.  Te Arai was on a mission:

Goal:
To research an animal and it's habitat

Trips:
A big thank you to Murray Palmer and daughters for taking us to Waihirere Domain to investigate the water clarity.  I will post up photo's later.

Then to finish the day we had a beautiful lunch with Nanny Nuku at Parihimanihi marae.

Ka mau te wehi, te mutunga mai o te ngahau!

Last week on Wednesday Te Arai proudly put their completed Diorama's in the school hall to be judged for our School Science Fair.
Each Diorama included their report.  We are currently recording a digital picture with our recorded reading of their reports in our blogs.
We are extremely proud of our efforts and look forward to sharing our mahi with you.

Class first place over all goes to Joseph Madsen-Jamieson, runner up goes to Jasmine Boyd-Samuels.

Congratulions to all.
